Amid widespread outrage over the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, a truck was seen at New York’s Times Square calling for justice for the victims. Displaying a digital poster with images of those affected, the truck carried messages such as “Humanity bleeds in Pahalgam, world must wake up” and “We demand justice.” The poster emphasized the brutal killing of innocent civilians by terrorists in Pahalgam’s Baisaran Valley on April 22.

On Tuesday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi granted the Armed Forces “complete operational freedom” to respond to Pakistan. He convened a high-level security meeting at his residence, attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, and Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh.

A terror attack on April 22 in the Baisaran Valley of Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam district claimed the lives of 26 tourists. The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of the banned Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), initially took responsibility for the attack but later retracted their claim on April 26, citing a compromise of their social media accounts.

In response, the Indian government initiated a large-scale crackdown on the perpetrators, releasing sketches of three suspects. According to J&K Police, two of the attackers were Pakistani nationals, while the third was a resident of Anantnag in Kashmir. The local suspect’s home, along with those of several other terrorists, has been demolished.

On the diplomatic front, the Indian government took decisive measures by suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, expelling Pakistani diplomats, recalling Indian officials from Islamabad, and closing the Attari border. Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared, “I say to the whole world. India will identify, track and punish every terrorist and their backers. We will pursue them to the ends of the earth.”

In response, Pakistan denied any involvement in the attack, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif calling for a “neutral probe.” Pakistan also issued a “war threat” over the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and, in a retaliatory move, announced reciprocal actions, including the potential termination of the Simla Agreement and the closure of its airspace to Indian flights.
