Taylor Swift continues to dominate the music scene, and the latest MTV Video Music Award nominations are a testament to her influence. The artist behind “The Tortured Poets Department” leads the pack with an astounding 10 nominations—eight for her captivating “Fortnight” music video, along with nods for artist of the year and best pop.
Close behind is her collaborator Post Malone, who shares eight nominations with Swift and adds a ninth for his country hit “I Had Some Help,” featuring Morgan Wallen.
The artist of the year category also includes notable names such as Ariana Grande, Bad Bunny, Eminem, Sabrina Carpenter, and SZA, showcasing a diverse range of talent. Last year, Swift took home nine VMAs, bringing her total to an impressive 23, placing her just behind Beyoncé, who has 28 (including two with Destiny’s Child), while surpassing Madonna with 20 and Lady Gaga with 19. Mark your calendars for the 2024 MTV VMAs, airing live on September 10 at 8 p.m. Eastern.
Grande, Carpenter, and Eminem are leading the pack with six nominations each, while Megan Thee Stallion and SZA are close behind with five nominations apiece. Following them are Blackpink’s LISA, Olivia Rodrigo, and Teddy Swims, each receiving four nominations.
This year is particularly exciting as it introduces 29 first-time nominees, including Wallen, Carpenter, and Swims, along with Benson Boone and Tyla, who each have three nominations to their names.
Also making their debut in 2024 are Chappell Roan, Coco Jones, Gracie Abrams, Jelly Roll, Jessie Murph, LE SSERAFIM, Morgan Wallen, Rauw Alejandro, RAYE, Sexyy Red, Shaboozey, Tyla, Tyler Childers, Victoria Monet, and many more.
The VMAs are set to take place at the UBS Arena on Long Island, New York. Fan voting kicks off online on Tuesday across 15 gender-neutral categories and will close on August 30. Voting for the best new artist category will remain open throughout the duration of the show.
