Houston Police Chief Troy Finner spoke out about a political ad by the Harris County District Attorney that showed a picture of him in uniform.
Finner said he did not authorize the use of his photo and stressed that he has always kept away from politics.
The message read the following:
“I was recently made aware of a political ad by the Harris County District Attorney where a photograph of me in uniform was used. The photograph and ad were done without my permission.
“In my nearly 34 years of law enforcement, I have a history of staying independent of politics. As Chief of Police, that has not changed.
“I respect the District Attorney and her opponents, but I am not endorsing a candidate and look forward to working with whomever the people of Harris County elect.”
Ogg responded to Finner’s criticism of her political ad that featured his photo without his consent. She said at a news conference on Friday, “The chief and I are long-time friends, but I never sought his endorsement. He is an appointed chief who does not endorse candidates. The photo was just a public image of me performing my duties.”
