An American Airlines plane had a hard landing at Kahului Airport in Maui, Hawaii, on Saturday, injuring six people slightly. They were later released from the hospital, FAA and airline officials said.
The FAA said the American Airlines Airbus A320 had a hard landing on a runway around 2 p.m. local time. One passenger and five flight attendants were among the injured, American said in another statement.
The plane, Flight 271 from Los Angeles, had a problem when it landed, the airline said. “The plane drove to the gate by itself and customers got off normally.”
The weather in Maui was partly cloudy and windy with a temperature of about 80 degrees, National Weather Service data said.
The plane had 167 customers and seven crew members, American said. It was out of service and being checked, it said.
“Our customers and team members’ safety is very important to us,” the airline said. The FAA said it was looking into what caused the incident.
