As the possibility of a war between Russia and NATO looms, the US reportedly intends to relocate nuclear weapons to the UK, something it has not done since 2008. The UK’s Ministry of Defence declined to comment on the report.

As the risk of a war between Russia and NATO increases, high-ranking officials from both sides of the Atlantic urge more readiness.

According to the Telegraph, Pentagon documents show that the nuclear weapons will be placed at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk to strengthen the alliance.

They are reportedly three times more powerful than the Hiroshima bomb.

A UK’s Ministry of Defence spokesperson said: “We do not comment on the presence or absence of nuclear weapons at any location, as per the longstanding UK and NATO policy.”

The US last stored nuclear missiles in the UK in 2008, when they were withdrawn as the Cold War menace from Russia had diminished.

The nuclear weapons that might be stationed at the base are thought to be B61-12 gravity bombs, which can be launched from fighter jets.

The Telegraph reports that this is part of a NATO initiative to “build and improve nuclear sites” following Russia’s attack on Ukraine.
