The leader of a Lagos-based church Feyi Daniels has been given a life sentence for raping his church member.
The Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court delivered the sentence on Friday, January 26.
Local media reports said that the victim, 23 years old, was the assistant of Daniels, who is also the founder of “I Reign Christian Ministry”.
He also received three years in prison for sexually assaulting a 19-year-old member of the church.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) said in a statement that the two sentences will run at the same time, and his name will be added to the Sexual Offenders Register kept by the state.
The judge, Rahman Oshodi, called Daniels a liar who did not care about the truth.
The accused had claimed in his defence last year that he thinks three out of the four women who accused him of sexually assaulting them plotted against him.
Daniels said that one of those women made up lies about him because he did not assist her with some financial problems.
In May 2023, the court ordered the cleric to be detained for allegedly raping a 25-year-old woman at his home in Lekki.
The church member had said in court that the cleric had sex with her while praying and speaking in tongues.
Rape violates Section 260 (2) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
