Authorities said that a Colorado pastor and his wife allegedly convinced their congregation to invest in a “worthless” cryptocurrency that they created, based on claims of divine inspiration.

The Colorado Securities Commission charged Eligio (Eli) and Kaitlyn Regalado of Denver, INDXcoin LLC, Kingdom Wealth Exchange LLC and others with civil fraud for allegedly violating the anti-fraud, licensing and registration requirements of the Colorado Securities Act, according to a news release.

According to the press release, Regalado, a pastor, and his wife, Kaitlyn, made, promoted and traded a cryptocurrency called the “INDXcoin” to Christians. They also ran an online cryptocurrency exchange, the Kingdom Wealth Exchange (KWE), where they offered the INDXcoin.
