The new owners of a home in western Colorado stumbled upon a human head and hands in a freezer while cleaning it. On January 12, the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office announced the finding of “possible human remains”.
A Thursday update stated that an autopsy by the coroner’s office had established that the remains were a human head and hands.
In a news release on Thursday, the sheriff’s office stated that they had no definitive answers yet and that further testing was required. “We continue this investigation and ask for the public’s patience, as these tests are time-consuming,” they said. They also said that they were focused on doing a thorough and detailed investigation and identifying the victim with respect. The cause of death and the sex of the victim were not disclosed. The first news release claimed that this incident was isolated and that there was no danger to the community.
The sheriff’s office confirmed in an email to CNN that a human head and hands were found in a freezer at a home in Grand Junction, Colorado, which is about 200 miles away from Denver.
