They seemed to have everything. Fancy clothes, a purebred dog and trips to Dubai and the Amalfi Coast.

But Ashley Singh, 39, and Sophie Bruyea, 20, were actually a pair of crooked con artists and the bane of gyms in London and the South East.

They preyed on 18 people over a year, spending credit cards they snatched from locker rooms.

Bruyea’s Facebook page had photos of the couple by pools, in a luxury car and in front of an aquarium at Burj Al Arab, known as Dubai’s most famous hotel.

Between January 2022 and January 2023, Singh and Bruyea, from Bromley, south London, were found guilty of fraud by false representation conspiracy.

Singh got a three-year prison sentence and Bruyea got 20 months at a young offenders’ institute, a rehabilitation programme and 120 hours of community service.

Detective Constable Luis Martins Da Silva said: ‘We understand Londoners are concerned about theft. It’s a terrible crime, and it causes a lot of anxiety, pain, and financial loss.
