The rapper looked back on his 2003 album, which was nominated for a Grammy for best rap album, in an interview with The Rebecca Judd Show on Apple Music 1. He talked about his goals in 2003 and his opinion on one-hit wonders. “In 2003, I would’ve just wished for my music to be a hit. I didn’t think about 20 years later in music,” he said to Judd. “I was just in the moment, trying to make it work.”

He also said that most artists are not ready when they think they are. “Most good artists have been overconfident before they were actually good, but they had some time to practice and improve. That’s why we have one-hit wonders in hip-hop. When that happens, they get their first hit and then they leave the studio to go on stage and face all the distractions of being a successful artist. And then they come back to the studio without knowing how to make another hit. So they end up with only one hit.
