A crime at a gas station led to the death of an off-duty cop in North Carolina who confronted the suspects, police said.
The officer was Sgt. Philip Dale Nix, a 23-year veteran of the Greensboro Police Department.
Police arrested three people linked to the crime: Jamere Justice Foster, 18, Z’quriah Le’Pearce Blackwell, 18, and John Walter Morrison, 28.
Foster faces charges of first-degree murder, larceny and conspiracy to commit larceny and has no bond. Blackwell faces charges of accessory after the fact to first-degree murder and has a $500,000 bond. Morrison faces charges of accessory after the fact to first-degree murder, larceny and conspiracy to commit larceny and has no bond.
Sgt. Nix was a devoted husband, father, son and brother who had many roles in his career. He was a Supervisor of the Family Victims Unit and a Team Leader for the Peer Support Team for 12 years.
