According to the semi-official Tasnim news agency, Iran’s UN envoy Amir Saeid Iravani denied that his country had any role in the attacks on US military forces on Tuesday.
The US has accused the Houthi group, which is allied with Iran, of carrying out a series of attacks in the Middle East waters since the conflict between Israel and Hamas started on Oct. 7. US national security adviser Jake Sullivan told reporters on Monday that the US believes that Iran is fully behind the attacks, which were launched by the Houthis from Yemen.
On Sunday, three commercial vessels were attacked by drones and missiles in the southern Red Sea in the latest incidents. The Houthis claimed responsibility for the attacks, saying they targeted two Israeli vessels in the area.
On Sunday, the US Navy destroyer The Carney responded to distress calls from the commercial vessels and shot down three drones. The US military says the three vessels were linked to 14 different nations.
