The Kremlin said Thursday that Russian President Vladimir Putin will have his end-of-year press conference and call-in show in a “mixed format” this year.
Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 disrupted or canceled Putin’s set-piece political events.
Putin skipped his Direct Line call-in show and his annual press conference last year — and he postponed his state-of-the-nation address to February.
Peskov did not say on Thursday how the Kremlin would merge Putin’s call-in show and the annual press conference. The first event lets ordinary people ask the Russian leader to fix their daily issues, while the second lets journalists quiz the president on various topics.
Putin’s Direct Line call-in show started in 2001 and shows the Russian leader as a “problem-solver-in-chief,” as he personally deals with the grievances of ordinary people that regional and local officials allegedly neglect.
