Republican presidential hopeful and former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley is re-upping her call for age-based cognitive testing after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., had his second public freeze-up earlier this week.

McConnell, who is 81 and the longest-serving Republican senator, froze during a press event on Wednesday after a reporter asked him whether or not he would seek reelection in 2026.

The Kentucky senator stood silently for more than 20 seconds, not answering the question, prompting an aide to step in. This incident came after a similar one in July during a Capitol Hill press conference.

During a Thursday appearance on Fox News’ The Story, Haley responded to a question about the incident by calling the Senate the “most privileged nursing home in the country.”

“It’s sad,” she said. “No one should feel good about seeing that any more than we should feel good about seeing [Sen.] Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., any more than we should feel good about a lot of what’s happening or seeing Joe Biden’s decline. What I will say is, right now the Senate is the most privileged nursing home in the country. I mean, Mitch McConnell has done some great things and he deserves credit. But you have to know when to leave.”

Haley voiced her support for giving older politicians competency tests and term limits so people know politicians are “at the top of their game.”

“That is why I’m strongly in support of term limits in this country. I think that we do need mental competency tests for anyone over the age of 75. I wouldn’t care if they did them over the age of 50, but these people are making decisions on our national security,” Haley said. “They’re making decisions on our economy, on the border. We need to know they’re at the top of their game. You can’t say that right now looking at Congress.”
