The Palestinian cause received a boost from Libyan Prime Minister who visited the Palestinian embassy in Tripoli on Monday.

The visit followed Dbeibah’s decision to suspend Foreign Minister Najla Mangoush and launch an investigation into her meeting with her Israeli counterpart in Italy last week.

Mangoush left the country on Monday, a day after Israel announced the visit — news that sparked sporadic street protests in the turmoil-ridden North African nation.

Dbeibah told Palestinian Ambassador Muhammad Rahal that his country stood by Palestinians and that his former foreign minister did not reflect the government’s stance.

The Palestinian ambassador praised Dbeibah’s move to dismiss Mangoush.

Dbeibah did not explain why Mangoush would be investigated.

His action to suspend Mangoush implied that he was not informed of the meeting.

However, two senior Libyan government officials told The Associated Press that the prime minister was aware of the talks between his foreign minister and the Israeli top diplomat.

One of the officials said Dbeibah approved the meeting last month when he was in Rome.

The prime minister’s office set up the encounter in coordination with Mangoush, he said.
