A dentist from Worcestershire died after falling 130ft from a steep mountain edge while hiking to Ben Nevis with his sons and one of their friends on Sunday.

Dr Nathan Turner was the man who slipped and fell while walking on the Carn Mor Dearg Arete, his son said. He said they saw him fall and tried to reach him, but could not.

A mountain rescue team of ten people and a coastguard helicopter came to the scene to try to save him, but it was too late.

His son said: “It was more like a scramble than a hike. We reached the top, walking along the arête, and he slipped and fell.

“I went down to see where he had fallen, and so did my friend who was with us. My brother stayed at the top of the ridge.”

He also said: “The mountain rescue were amazing, they deserve a lot of praise, they’re heroes.

“They brought the helicopter in, right next to this narrow gap where my dad had fallen. They ziplined down, pulled my dad up, then pulled me and my friend up.”

Dr Turner’s surgery, Clent Dental Care in Hagley, also honoured the “much loved” dentist.

On Facebook, they wrote: “We are very sad to tell you that Dr. Nathan Turner has passed away recently. He was very popular with his patients and enjoyed his work very much.”
