Luther Vandross was one of the most influential and beloved singers of his generation, with a voice that could melt hearts and move souls. His legacy lives on in his timeless songs, his loyal fans, and his impact on the music industry.
Now, two Oscar-winning actors are joining forces to pay tribute to the late legend in a new documentary. Jamie Foxx and Colin Firth are teaming up to produce and narrate a film that will explore Vandross’s life, career, and legacy, as well as his personal struggles with health, sexuality, and fame.
The Luther Vandross Story, will feature interviews with Vandross’s family, friends, collaborators, and admirers, as well as rare footage and recordings of the singer. Foxx and Firth are both longtime fans of Vandross, and have expressed their admiration for him in the past. Foxx, who is also a singer and musician, has performed several of Vandross’s songs on stage and on screen, including “A House Is Not a Home” and “Creepin'”. Firth, who is best known for his roles in period dramas and romantic comedies, has revealed that he listens to Vandross’s music to relax and unwind.
The two actors met at an awards ceremony in 2015, where they bonded over their mutual love for Vandross. They decided to collaborate on a project that would honor his memory and introduce him to a new generation of listeners. They approached Vandross’s estate and secured the rights to use his music and likeness in the film.
Foxx and Firth hope that the film will be a fitting tribute to Vandross, who died in 2005 at the age of 54 from complications of a stroke. They also hope that the film will inspire more people to appreciate his talent and legacy.
Luther is one of our GOAT’s: The Luther Vandross Story is expected to be released in 2024, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of Vandross’s death.
