The Kurdish-led administration in northeast Syria has decided to put hundreds of suspected IS fighters on trial after their home countries refused to take them back.

The administration said it would conduct fair and transparent trials according to international and local laws related to terrorism.

The trials will start soon and will be open to observers from rights groups and the US-led coalition that supported the Kurdish forces in defeating IS.

The administration holds more than 10,000 IS detainees, including 2,000 foreigners from about 60 nationalities, who were captured during the war against IS.

The administration also called for the creation of an international tribunal to deal with the issue of foreign fighters and their families, who are kept in camps under Kurdish control.
