Ten people have lost their lives in a tragic bus accident that occurred in the Hunter Valley, a renowned wine region in New South Wales, Australia.
According to police reports, the bus was carrying more than 50 passengers who had attended a wedding celebration on Sunday night. The bus rolled over at a roundabout near the town of Greta, around 11:30 pm local time.
Eleven other passengers were injured and taken to hospital by helicopter and road, while 18 passengers escaped unharmed. The driver of the bus, a 58-year-old man, was also hospitalized and tested for drugs and alcohol.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but authorities said that visibility was poor due to foggy conditions. The prime minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese, expressed his condolences to the families and friends of the victims, and thanked the emergency services for their swift response.
He described the incident as a “horrific bus tragedy” that turned a day of joy into a devastating loss. The Hunter Valley is located about 160 kilometers northwest of Sydney and is one of Australia’s leading wine regions and tourist destinations.
