The Labour Party said earlier that he had been suspended over “incredibly serious” claims of “completely unacceptable behavior”.

He is accused of giving younger colleagues unwanted sexual attention, Politico news website reported.

The MP for Swansea West said he did not recognize the claims. He said: “If I have inadvertently caused offence to anyone, then I am naturally sorry as it is important that we share an environment of mutual and equal respect for all.”

The allegations are being investigated by the party and Mr Davies has been administratively suspended.

He can not sit as a Labour MP while the investigation is underway, but he stays the Member of Parliament for Swansea West, and will sit as an independent. Politico, which first revealed the allegations, said it had interviewed more than 20 people who worked with Mr Davies in Parliament, including serving MPs, and current and former Labour Party staff.

The news site said five women had accused Mr Davies of subjecting them to unwanted sexual attention, both physical and verbal. The website said the allegations, which span at least five years, include excessive drinking, as well as sexual jokes and unwanted touching of younger women. Some of the individuals said they had informed his behavior to Labour whips, who oversee party discipline.
