Mike Pence plans to declare his intention to run for president in 2024 on June 7, according to a person who knows his agenda, setting himself up as a rival to his former boss, ex-President Trump.

Earlier this year, Pence expressed his disappointment in Trump for his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the U.S. Capitol and said he wished the former president would acknowledge the severity of that day’s violence.

Pence’s announcement would put him in the same race as Trump, Florida’s Gov. DeSantis, Sen. Scott from South Carolina, ex-U.N. ambassador Haley, former Arkansas Gov. Hutchinson and other potential or declared Republican candidates.
